Scanning the architecture - LIVE !
i was thinking about it earlier, if it is possible to monitor directly how one experiences the spaces, volumes.. how the eyes moving, which brain signals are being sent.. etc..
Apparently I was not the only curious one! University of San Diego had developed something to response this need.
Calit2 is the offical developer of this innovation, which is combination of software and virtual reality program. A unit called StarCave holding screens on 360 degree and with 16 pannels is giving the architectural reality of a real room. The space is modelled by the advanced cad software as they name it Cave CAD. To accomplish the test, a person is taken in as experiment, wearing a cap to monitor brain signals. (it is not essential to wear it, the other pysical actions are also giving considerable information though) While experimenter goes around this "cave" the eye movement and brain signals are being monitored and recorded. It is possible to modify the design sametime while the experimenter is in which gives possibility to see directly which feature affected how.
The experiment had been recently used to research on a hospital unit. It was about which objects in the room attracts or distracts attention, which is the best setting for the staff for faster circulation in the room, and so on.
here you can check the link and Google it a bit further reading , it is rather interesting.
